About IAK-UK:

The International Association of Kalorn – United Kingdom (IAK-UK) was established in July 2003 in order to bring all Kalorn and Kalorn associates in the UK under one umbrella. This came about through the initiative of Father David Jumo Jarjou. Kalorn is an ethnic tribe within the Senegambia region in West Africa who generally, have not established themselves in society comfortably, or are not considered for key positions and responsibilities held by other ethnic tribes due to their lack of access to early education since Colonial times.

The Association is established to assist, where necessary, all Kalorn to achieve these aspirations by championing or driving development, growth, productivity within the Kalorn community through promoting access to education and cultural awareness.  Furthermore, the Association will assist in the dissemination of information to its members and will share any potential and fundamental ideas that seeks to promote and bring about more collaboration to all Kalorn and their communities as a whole. This will include but not limited to educational and support schemes, national and international awareness etc.

Objectives

IAK-UK’s objectives are to:

  • provide support to all members in need of help. This could include Members who are  in a situation where a member is in difficulty and or serious circumstances beyond their means;
  • create an occasion for socializing to help bring members together as Kalorn and Kalorn-Associates and create more social cohesion, understanding and unity among members;
  • raise funds through membership subscription schemes for the Association to support its intervention programmes;
  • support students in secondary schools in The Gambia, who cannot afford to pay for their education. This may include the provision of educational materials for needy students, and the provision of full or part scholarships;
  • create or form a partnership with Gambia Kalorn Scholarship Trust Fund (GKSTF) or any organisation that has similar interest to IAK. Such partnership with GKSTF or other organisation will be with their educational committee;
  • offer advice to intending Kalorn visitors to UK and the newly arrived individuals to ensure a hitch free or trouble-free stay in UK;
  • inspire and encourage Kalorn all over the world to participate in bringing awareness through information and general discussion; and
  • provide any other service(s) which will not jeopardise the financial status of the Association and does not distort and or have a negative effect on the reason for the Association’s existence.

The main driver of the association is to educate, support its members; grow and empower the young generation to become role models and future leaders thus giving them a solid foundation in life.
